Wiper Warfare: Spinner Rigs for Suspended Stripers

With Jackson Reservoir's wiper bite heating up and Union Reservoir's boat dock finally in the water, it's officially time to tangle with some of Colorado's hardest-fighting freshwater bruisers. These hybrid striped and white bass hit like they're personally offended by your lure choice and fight with the determination of a caffeinated linebacker – which is exactly why we love them.

Here's a walleye technique that's been absolutely crushing suspended wipers: spinner rigs traditionally used for eyes work like magic on these roaming predators. The setup is surprisingly simple but deadly effective

A Union wiper that succumbed to a suspended spinner rig

The Rig: Use a 2-hook harness with Colorado blades in sizes 3-5. Some days, these wipers want the subtle flash of unpainted metal; other days, they're all about those bright painted blades – pack both and let the fish tell you their preference. Tip each hook with half a nightcrawler for that irresistible scent trail.
