This past week, I spent most of it in Wyoming fishing at Glendo. The bite is good for those in the know and tough for lots of the other anglers. There are still some fish on the main lake points and structures in the mid-lake region. The best bite was associated with weeds in the Elkhorn, Airport, Cottonwood, and Muddy regions of the lake. Look for the weeds topping out about 6-12 feet from the surface. That leaves enough room to fish over the top and not be hung up every other cast.

Anglers are catching fish trolling and casting cranks in these areas, using bottom bouncers and spinners on the weed edges, and casting jigs with a twister or paddletail. I also caught some fish utilizing Mega Live 2, casting a jig and crawler or Mooch Minnow at individual fish.
The bite for Colorado walleyes in NoCo has been similar to Glendo. Weeds are a good bet to check for some of the best bites in many of our lakes. As the water temperature reaches 70 degrees, walleyes will begin to move to deeper structure.
HOT BITES:
Chatfield - the walleye bite is still good. Look for weeds and along the old road beds.
Cherry Creek - the bite for walleyes is turning on, look at shallow structure and weeds.
Boyd - the inlet is on, and this means the white bass are coming to the current. Try casting spoons or jigs and paddletails in the marina cove. Look for current breaks where the white bass will stack up.
Jackson - the walleye bite remains strong, trolling in the 10-14 foot depths. Be prepared for some bonus wipers.
CPW NEWS
CPW appears to be making a concerted effort to check people fishing for a license. I have been checked twice this year, and heard from several others who have been checked in NoCo. I know some anglers see this as an inconvenience, but I see it as a positive. CPW is making an effort to make sure people have a license and enforce some fishing regulations. This should help reduce the number of people who willfully violate fishing rules, claiming, “Oh, I’ll never be checked”. To get the most out of our fisheries, it is a multitiered effort that includes the biologists who do the sampling and help create regulations to maximize a fishery, and the law enforcement side that enforces these rules. So if you get checked, be courteous to the CPW employees who are out there, talk to them, and you might learn some things you didn’t know before.

TERRY WICKSTROM OUTDOORS
This Saturday, Terry will be having a special segment, starting at about 10:35 am, that most anglers who fish NoCo will appreciate tuning in to. It’s one I will not miss!
I will be on Terry’s show at 9:15, talking about my trip to Glendo and some good water level news on a few of the NoCo lakes.
Terry’s show can be heard on 104.3 FM from 9 to 11 am on Saturdays.
WATER NEWS
The inlets at Boyd and Union are still flowing. Union is up over 3 feet from it’s low point in May. Boyd has come up roughly 18 inches since the water started.
